Over the past 10 years I have seen, from the inside out, how the traditional music business model has shifted dramatically in a number of ways. Labels seldom invest in developing artists, the digital age has changed the way we consume music and social media has altered the way artists communicate and connect with their fan base. Because of my experience as an independent entertainment publicist and consultant, I have had the pleasure of witnessing indies accomplish great professional and financial success by controlling their creative property and having the perspective of where some see a ceiling, the indie doesn’t even know a ceiling exists. As Jay Z said on “F.U.T.W”, “We have yet to see a ceiling, we just top what we top.”
I wrote Indie Insider: 10 Key Facts from Music Industry Insiders to help people get the basic fundamental truths on taking control of their careers and not waiting on anyone to do for them what they can do for themselves.
I found this book to be helpful with a few problems, but it was not worth the money since it did not help with most of the problems I needed help with. I picked up this book because I'm living with a football-crazed family and wanted to be able to hold my own when we watched games together. I'm beginning to see her more as a woman and not a teenager. Save your money, Dawg.. This book is not only very thorough in the information provided- often times from remote sources- it also presents the various profiles in a very entertaining manner. And there's a bit too much of the reportage I mentioned, where the reader is told what is happening (or what happened off stage) rather than being shown it.
In the end, Surrender to the Will of the Night continues for both good and bad what the earlier two books had begun. She outlines a basic wardrobe of timeless high quality basics that flatter and supplement with trendier and cheaper items that are fun but will not last as long in your w
